Designed for versitility, this piece could be knit in ANY weight of yarn, in any quantity (size and yardage will vary).
The green sample is knit with 940 yards (100 grams) of Malabrigo Lace (100% Baby Merino Wool, 470 yards per 50 gram skein) in ‘Cypress 20’. 20 wpi
The pink sample is knit with 230 yards (4 ounces) of handspun 3-ply Superfine Merino wool from Wooly Wonka Roving in ‘Desert Rose’. 14 wpi on 3.75mm (US 5) with the finished measurements of 29 inches (74 cm) from bottom point to end of each wing and each wing 12 inches (30 cm)
wide, 17 inches (43 cm) from neck to bottom point.
Vinca combines the best aspects of triangular shawls with the long, elegant wings of a rectangular stole. It’s easy to wear with clean and lovely lines.
This shawl is worked in a square from the center outward in a counterpane construction until the desired size from neck to bottom point is achieved, then two sides of the square are bound off, leaving the remaining two sides with live stitches. For Row 1 of the wings, both wings are worked together, then beginning with Row 2, those remaining two sides are then worked separately until the desired length of the wings is reached, or until the yarn runs out. Both wings may be worked simultaneously on the same needle using separate balls of yarn.
