Vintage
A couple of years ago, I sewed a pair of pants from a pattern named “Marlene,” after Marlene Dietrich. I loved the pants but lacked a suitably vintage-style top to go with them, so I designed this pattern to complete the ensemble. I kept the body slim, cropped the length, and incorporated a deep ribbed hem, in line with vintage styles. The stitch pattern for the body and sleeves, however, deviates from true vintage styles, as it travels vertically in zig-zags rather than in straight columns. The sweater body is knit in the round to the armholes and divided for the upper front and back. The sleeves are knit in the round to the cap. The stitch pattern is easy to memorize, which, combined with minimal seaming, makes this a relatively quick garment. The length is not overly cropped, so it will work well with both high-waisted and normal-fitting pants and skirts, increasing the versatility of the sweater. This will become a staple in your wardrobe!
