This beautiful kangaroo is an homage to little Violet – and all the work that Josh Neille, Amber and Ashley do in Victoria to rehabilitate and care for Australian wildlife. Onya legends!

The pattern is mainly worked in continuous rounds, unless otherwise stated, so you will need to use st markers to help you keep track of your st count. You’ll be working the body from the bottom up and then crocheting the arms, head, tail and ears separately.

The pattern uses a no-sew technique for the arms so you’ll have less to attach at the end and fewer yarn tails to weave in.

There are also instructions for some little flowers that you can tuck by Violet’s ear to complete her outfit.

While the stitches themselves are all fairly basic, maintaining good tension and keeping your stitches from twisting too much is important to get the right shaping on the head in particular so it’s most suitable for intermediate crocheters.

A stitch guide (including video links) and photo tutorial throughout will help you to visualise the different techniques used and clarify what you’ll be doing at each stage.
