Wrap yourself in effortless elegance. This top-down triangular shawl is a relaxing, meditative knit, with a simple two-row repeat that creates a beautiful textured fabric. Whether you’re crafting on a quiet evening or a sunlit afternoon, it’s a project that adapts to your rhythm.
Knit it in any yarn weight, from airy lace to cozy worsted, and watch it come to life in both solid and variegated colours. Play with needle size to change the fabric: smaller needles give a denser, more structured texture, while larger needles open it up into a light, drapey, lace-like fabric.
The size is easily adjustable too, letting you create a delicate wrap or a large snuggly shawl, or you can just use the amount of yarn you have!
How I made my shawl:
MATERIALS
Yarn:
You can make this shawl in any weight yarn, the choice is yours!
Shown in Malabrigo Sock- 100% Merino Wool, 402 m / 440 yds / 100g, colour Gingy. I used 600 m / 656 yds.
Needles and notions:
Sock weight yarn: 3.5 mm (US 4), circular needle length 80-100 cm / 32-40 inches.
But play with your needle size, small needles give a denser fabric whilst sizing up will create a more open almost lace like texture.
Two stitch markers. Tapestry needle to sew in ends.
GAUGE
Who cares? Adust yarn weight and needle size to suit your deired outcome! and you can adjust the size by adjusting the number of repeats.
As a guide (for my shawl after blocking): Using sock weight yarn and 3.5 mm (US 4) 16 sts & 36 rows to 10 cm / 4 inches in the pattern stitch. This gauge might seem unusual, but it is due to the way the stitch opens out after blocking.
SIZE
Well make it as big as you like!
Mine was..Width: 185 cm / 74 inches; Depth: 80 cm / 29 inches.
