August 2020 is the 100 year anniversary of the ratification of the 19th amendment recognizing the right of women in America to vote. It is so hard to believe that it is only 100 years! And that for many of us we are only 1 or 2 generation away from the women in our family who fought for this right. While the passage of the amendment applied to all women, it was many more years for women of color to have these rights actualized. One’s political affiliation is unimportant to me. But I strongly believe in utilizing this right and voting - especially in local elections where our voices are so important and the decision directly impact our lives.

It is my hope that as we celebrate having the right to vote that we also take time this season to seek out women with opinions that differ from ours and take the time to listen with open heart and mind and speak with the intention of understanding, not conversion. I firmly believe that we have more in common than we think and that we can often find a middle ground. I send my love out to all of us!

Hat details:
The hat is knit densely with a bulky weight yarn because the colorwork is created with duplicate stitch. I added a video to YouTube in case this technique is new to you.

The hat needs just a few yards of the black. You can easily get two to three hats out of the 4 skeins of yarn necessary to make the hat. The colors I chose are the colors that the Suffragettes wore in their sashes. But, of course, you can choose any color!
