Vurr
The Vurr sock pattern features subtle mosaic colourwork which works up quickly and is easily memorable. I called the pattern Vurr because it knits up fast and the motif reminds me of a spinning top which is “vurr” in my native Estonian.
Mosaic knitting is one of the easiest colourwork techniques. The mosaic pattern knits up using just one of the yarns at a time. The remaining yarn is left hanging at the beginning of the round. Knitting involves slipping the stitches in a round that should be the “other” colour. The sample was worked alternating the colours on each round, one round in one colour, one round in another colour. However, the chart can be worked repeating each row twice, two rounds in one colour, then two rounds in another colour.
Socks are worked from toe up with an option of short row heels or Peasant heels. Size refers to sock foot circumference. Socks can be worked on double pointed needles, two circular needles or on other types of needles convenient for the knitter for knitting small circumferences in the round.
The pattern uses metric and imperial systems.
The pattern has been tech edited.
Size medium socks are shown in the photo. The yarns used for the sample:
• MC Drops Delight #1 Black/gray
• CC Cascade Yarns Heritage Solids #5659 Primavera
Size:
S (M, L)
Size refers to the circumference of the foot measured around mid-foot.
Sock foot circumference unstretched 17.5(20, 22.5) cm / 7 (8, 9)’’,
stretches to 21(24, 27) cm / 8¼(9½, 10¾)’’
Foot/leg length: adjustable to fit.
