Waimakariri
This pattern was part of Sock Madness in 2016. It will eventually be available for purchase, but I have had to step back from designing for a while because of other life events. If you would like me to notify you when it is available please let me know.
The Waimakariri is a braided river in Canterbury, New Zealand. The cable on this sock follows the path of a braided river, starting at the toe, and splitting, crossing, and merging as it grows and flows towards the cuff.
The toe starts with a provisional cast on, and is worked sideways to carry the cable seamlessly across the end of the sock. Gusset increases then appear both below the cables, and between the cables as they split apart to
wrap around the ankle. Once they have finished crossing over they merge again, to make a wider braid up the side of the leg.
This sock is written in three sizes - Small, Medium and Large (7.5”, 8.5”, 9.5” finished circumference).
All instructions are written, charts are also provided for the cuff.
