Walk in the Woods Socks
These socks feature an eye-catching mosaic motif which decorates the leg with a contrasting colour.
They are inspired by my previous design, the Walk in the Woods shawl pattern, that can be found here:
https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/walk-in-the-woods-3
The socks are worked cuff-down in the round using the magic-loop method.
Mosaic knitting is an easy colourwork technique that uses slipped sts and only one colour at a time, but creates fascinating results.
The pattern contains fully written as well as charted instructions for the mosaic pattern so you can choose which you prefer to work from.
Since this pattern only requires a fairly small amount of the contrast colour and the number of rounds for the mosaic motif is easily adjustable, it would also be great for leftovers or those sock sets that come with a mini skein.
I hope you enjoy the pattern!
SIZES
1 (2) = 20 cm (25 cm) / 8“ (9.75“) finished leg and foot circumference, to fit with slight negative ease.
Leg and foot length are adjustable.
Sample shown is a size 1.
YARN
Designed for fingering weight sock yarn plus a contrasting yarn (this can also be a sock yarn or a fluffy Suri like I used for my sample).
Yarn used for sample:
(A) Malabrigo Yarn Sock (light fingering weight, 100% Superwash Merino, 100 g = 402 m / 440 yds) in colourway Eggplant.
(B) Olivia & Oliver Fibers Suri Silk (lace weight, 74% Baby Suri Alpaca, 26% Mulberry Silk, 50 g = 300 m / 328 yds) in colourway Macaron. I only used 2 g (= 12 m / 13.5 yds) of this yarn. If using a regular sock yarn, you’ll need approx. 6-8 g (= 24-32 m / 26-35 yds) if working the same number of rows for the mosaic motif as you see on the sample in size 1.
GAUGE & NEEDLES
Gauge: 32 sts x 48 rounds = 10 x 10 cm / 4 x 4“ in stockinette stitch, after washing and gentle blocking.
Needles: 2.25 mm / US 1 needles for knitting in the round with magic-loop method (circular needles at least 80 cm / 32“ long), or size to obtain gauge.
This pattern has been professionally tech-edited and well testknitted. Thanks so much to my wonderful helpers!
