This pattern is a part of the Designers’ Dogs collaboration, the brainchild of Handworks NW and Knitted Wit. The collection is a love letter to our pups. Lorajean and her dyers created ten beautiful colors inspired by the best doggo friends of ten talented designers, and they created some real magic. Knitted Wit DK is the featured yarn, and each of the ten accessory patterns are wonderful to work with and wear while hanging with your furry friend. Get the whole collection for $33 through 4/4/20, or snag this pattern on its own!

If you buy the pattern on its own before 4/4/2020 I will donate half of the purchase price to the Toronto Humane Society.

Dexter is a mystery mutt: he was a stray we took in. He looks like a beagle, but significantly larger. We’re fairly sure he’s not a purebred anything, but based on 10 years’ observations, we’re also entirely sure that whatever mix he is, he’s pure scent-hound. We think he’s probably a beagle crossed with a fox hound or a coonhound. He sniffs, he bays and he wanders. Oh, does he wander. We learned very quickly that you can’t let him off the leash, as he’ll run away to track a juicy scent, and never look back. We keep him on a leash, but we love taking him to parks and ravines where we can let him – and his nose – lead. He wanders back and forth, crossing the ground in front of him many times, nose to the ground. Over the years, he’s found every kind of discarded food – half-eaten burritos, pizza crusts, and once, some slices of ham. (We won’t mention the expired squirrels he enjoys tracking.)

The slipped stitch cables in these mittens represent his path: swinging back and forth as far as his leash will allow. There are sizes for kids and adults, and they feature a gusseted thumb for best fit. A quick knit, they’re terrific for wearing when you’re out for a walk with your best friend.
