From The New Crochet: 40 Wonderful Wearables:
- What could be more comforting (or elegant) wrapped around your shoulders than this easy-to-make mohair shawl? It’s the perfect project for a beginner.
- Pattern Note: The entire shawl is worked with two strands of yarn held together: one of yarn A and one of yarn B.
Notes from the designer, Donna Hulka:
-
Yarn Substitution: Yarn A: You could use any fingering or sport weight yarn. Louet Gems Merino Sport Weight (formerly called Louet Gems Merino Opal) is a fairly light sport weight and seems to me to work up almost like a fingering weight yarn. Yarn B: You could use any mohair or mohair blend yarn. Although the pattern in the book states lace weight, the mohair used in the pattern, Le Fibre Nobili Imperiale, is actually worsted weight. You could use anything from lace weight to worsted weight mohair.

More About Yardage: Although the pattern calls for 512 yards of merino wool and 550 yards of mohair, that is based upon the total yardage in the cone/balls. You actually only need 512 yards of each yarn because the yarns are held together throughout. Additionally, you could use more or less yarn if desired because this is a very simple pattern in which you can stop adding rows when you run out of yarn or the shawl is your desired size.
