The Wastrū Hat features an “allover” pattern in the body and a traditional Shetland striped crown. The design is made in five shades of 2 ply jumper weight. Suggestions are offered for both Jamieson’s of Shetland and Jamieson & Smith yarns. I would recommend using 100% Shetland wool for best results.

The Wastrū hat is offered in two sizes. The brim section has two sets of stitch numbers but in the body and crown sections the stitch counts are the same. The hat size, after the brim, is altered by adjusting needle size. Please pay particular attention to the required tension as my knitting is close.

When’s dū heading Wastrū? (pronounced Wastroo) is how we would ask someone when they were next intending to go to Shetland West Mainland. This hat is inspired by Shetland’s beautiful “Wastside” which is my home.
