This jacket gets its name from the purl ridges that create concentric rings around the body. The name also references the last year of change in the fiber community. We collectively became more aware, more woke. I believe every human feels the need to be included and valued. As we transition into a new decade, my hope is that we can become a more compassionate community where we focus on our common humanity, rather than our differences. Then we can create a space where kindness is the norm and everyone is welcome. In that spirit, this pattern was designed to be gender-neutral and size-inclusive. No single garment can fit every body, but I have included tips to help you customize the pattern to fit your body. I hope that you feel pride when making and wearing it. In my dreams, this jacket will become an emblem of our collective wish to create a lasting wave of change in the maker community, the fashion industry, and in the world.

Construction:

The jacket is worked flat and seamlessly from the top down. Circular needles are recommended to hold the weight and width of the stitches. It is designed to fit as a layering piece with a boxy and slightly cropped silhouette. You can, of course, knit the body to your desired length. Suggestions for lengthening are included. A two inch button(less) band is picked up along each front. Sew-on snaps will keep your jacket closed, while allowing the waves to flow without interruption. Lastly, the sleeves are knit in the round using either magic loop or DPNs.

1 (2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7) corresponding to finished bust measurements
36 (40, 45, 50.5, 54, 58.5, 63) ” or 91.5 (101.5, 114.5, 128.5, 137, 148.5, 160) cm.

Shown in size 2 with 4” / 10 cm of positive ease in Golden Honey.
Shown in size 5 with 3” / 7.5 cm of positive ease in Black.
Recommended ease to achieve a similar fit is 2-4” / 5-10 cm of positive ease.

Materials

Yarn:
Brown Sheep Nature Spun Chunky, 200 g = 155 yards / 142 m per hank. Golden Honey and Grey Heather colorways shown.
4 (5, 5, 6, 6, 7, 8) hanks or 563 (635, 696, 814, 884, 1029, 1111) yards / 514 (581, 637, 745, 809, 941, 1016) meters of chunky weight yarn.

If you choose to add length to the body, you will need an additional 37 (42, 47, 52, 58, 63, 68) yards of yarn per 10 row repeat.

Needles:

• US 10 / 6.0 mm circular needles on a 32” / 80 cm cable or size needed to obtain gauge.
• US 9 / 5.5 mm circular needles on a 32” / 80 cm cable for working the neckband, button(less) bands, and ribbing at the cuffs and hem.

The same needles can be used to knit the body flat and work the sleeves in the round using magic loop. Of course, DPNs may also be used for the sleeves.

Notions:

Sew-on snaps, 4 st markers, removable st markers, yarn snips, waste yarn, row counter, tapestry needle, highlighter, and pen.
