The Wee Wuzzie pattern from 2010 was updated in October 2024. The size and shaping of the original 6 toys have been slightly modified, and an extra toy, an owl, has been added. The hat and scarf are very similar to the originals.

The pattern includes instructions for 7 animals: a squirrel, a mouse, a hare, an otter, a hedgehog, an owl, and a fox. The finished toys are 3-4” tall, and use only a small amount of worsted yarn for each animal. The hat and scarf patterns are also included, and they use small amounts of fingering weight yarn.

Skills required include stockinette stitch, seed stitch, m1 increase, k2tog, ssk, s2kp, bobbles of different sizes, changing colours, intarsia (fox and owl), and sewing seams. The toys are all knit flat, then seamed, stuffed and assembled.

For extra fun, you can turn all these animals into finger puppets, using the body from my Reindeer or Panda finger puppets (modifying the colours to match the animal you’re making).

(Note: I’ve used worsted yarn for the toys because it is common in Canada and the US. The toys could easily be knit from DK, but you would need to go down 1-2 needle sizes for both the toys and the accessories)
