Weeping Willow Shrug
Weeping Willow Shrug is a fitted knitted shrug with a structured rib texture and a close silhouette. The piece sits high on the shoulders and upper body, creating a compact shape that works both as a layering piece and as a standalone garment. The vertical texture from the fisherman’s rib gives depth while keeping the expression clean.
The design is driven by texture rather than shaping details. The fisherman’s rib creates a dense and elastic fabric that adapts to the body, while the gradual increases form the rounded shoulder structure. In version 2, the addition of a silk mohair strand softens the surface and adds a light halo without changing the construction.
Weeping Willow Shrug is worked top down in the round. The work begins with an Italian cast on, followed by ribbing at the neckline. The yoke is shaped through evenly spaced increases within the rib structure. Once the required width is reached, the work is divided into body and sleeves, which are then completed separately. The construction is continuous and requires minimal finishing.

Design details
Weeping Willow Shrug is defined by its dense rib texture and compact construction. The use of fisherman’s rib creates elasticity and structure, allowing the garment to fit close to the body without complex shaping. The increase system is integrated into the rib pattern, keeping the visual flow consistent across the yoke.
The pattern offers two versions: a cleaner cotton-based version and a softer version with mohair. This changes the surface feel more than the silhouette. The construction remains the same, making it easy to adapt between the two.
The result is a functional layering piece that balances structure and flexibility, with a focus on texture rather than decorative elements.
