I’m SO excited to show you something different! This eye-catching pattern is from Weldon’s Practical Needlework, Volume 10, ca. 1898. Although this pattern has 87 rows, it goes quickly due to the easy, repeating pattern before the tassel section is knitted. The “fancy” rows 69 through 84 might look a little daunting but they’re just 3 big repeats with a few edge stitches. This pattern requires wrapping 6 stitches together for the tassel head but this happens only 3 times in a triangle. It’s doable!
4 triangles sewn together make an 11” square in the stated gauge.

Skills needed: cast on, knit, purl, slip stitch, yarn over, knit 2 together, purl 2 together and bind off in knit stitch.
To make the tassel head, 6 stitches are worked, then placed on a spare double pointed or cable needle. The thread/yarn is wrapped around these 6 stitches 4 times. Then the 6 stitches are placed back on the working needle.

Gauge is not important in this pattern but make a swatch to check size and appearance.

68 to 72 yards of #10 crochet cotton thread will make a triangle in the stated gauge.
