Here was another mystery (no image) pattern from Weldon’s Practical Needlework, vol. 3, p.11. I’m very glad I tried it! The 10-row pattern is symmetrical about the center double decrease, so the order of stitches is predictable. Except for the border stitches, all wrong-side rows are purl across. I changed the selvage stitches for easier sewing later on. Weldon’s Ivyleaf Strip creates a scallop on the bottom edge of the strip. If you prefer a straight edge, try tripling the number of garter stitch rows before starting the Ivyleaf pattern and blocking the bottom edge straight. Remember to work as many garter stitch rows at the top.

For chart lovers, you’re in luck! Barbara G. Walker has a nearly identical pattern in her Third Treasury of Knitting Patterns, p.174, called “Lobed Leaf Pattern”. She includes SSK stitches in her version.
My sample is 4.4 inches wide. One 10-row repeat took me 16 minutes. Aunt Lydia’s Classic 10 color was “Frosty Green”.

Skills needed: long-tail cast on, knit, purl, slip, YO, k2tog, SK2P, and bind off in knit stitch.

13 yards of #10 crochet cotton thread will make about 1 inch of a 39-stitch-wide Ivyleaf strip in the stated gauge.

Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check gauge and appearance.
