West Coast Mittens
Knitted in the round, this is a simple and straightforward knit for a set of half-mitts. The mock rib pattern gives some stretch like a rib stitch, but it is faster. At round 19 you have a choice to make a simple thumb opening, or to set stitches aside for a knitted thumb.
They are a great project for hand spun yarns, requiring about 60 gram (2 ounces) and 100 - 120 yards of DK weight yarn. To get different sizes I simply changed my needle size from 2.75mm for small; 3.25mm for medium; 3.5mm for large.
Yarn: 60 grams (2 oz) of DK yarn
Needles: 3.25mm or 3.5mm DPN (double pointed needles)
Tapestry needle, waste yarn, scissors
Size: women’s medium (to make it larger use slightly larger needles 3.5mm, to make a smaller mitt, use 2.75 needles)
Gauge: a mitten is a swatch
