Diagonal stitch patterns are worked with German Short Row, and fringes created by colorwork and Loop Stitch are added so that they zigzag across the piece.
You can weave in ends in your preferred way. For example, you can neatly weave in all ends after finishing knitting, or you can secure the tails not to unravel and leave them long enough to swing, etc.
