Introduction: The textures of this cosy, chunky cowl were inspired by a winter visit to Whinlatter Forest in Cumbria. The dropped stitch rib reminds me of tree bark and creates a beautiful drape. The Eden Cottage Yarns Whitfell Chunky shows off the stitch to perfection.

Skill Level: Confident beginner (A beginner who has mastered knitting and purling on a circular needle could make this).

Size: Circumference 104 (120) cm, height 24cm (Please note that these are the measurements the cowl was pinned out to when blocked. The weight of the yarn and open texture of the stitch will affect the exact dimensions when worn).

Tension: Measured over 2x2 rib on 4.5mm needles in the round: 12 sts and 19 rows = 10cm

Yarn: Eden Cottage Yarns Whitfell Chunky. This is a 100% alpaca yarn. Small cowl shown in Natural, large cowl shown in Steel. 100g / 100m / 109y
You’ll need 2 balls - but there will some left over from the small size and allowance has been made for making a swatch in the round before starting.

Needles and Notions: 4mm and 4.5mm circular needles. A stitch marker is used to mark each round.
