Wicken Fen
“This lace snood, knitted flat, is worked sideways from a temporary cast-on, knitted to the desired length and then grafted to form a closed ring,” explains its designer, Judy Furlong. “The lace stitch is fairly simple and would be great for a relative beginner to lace knitting.” Judy has knitted her snood using a heavy laceweight yarn from Fyberspates, called Cumulus. This has a glistening silk core with a gentle halo of baby alpaca, which creates a fabric with a beautiful drape and a delicate haze.

Actual circumference: 170cm (67in) (adjustable) Actual depth: 25cm (9in) (adjustable), excluding fringes of approx. 2½cm

28 sts and 36 rows to 10cm over Japanese Feathers using 3mm needles, after blocking. Since this is not a fitted garment, the exact tension is not critical, but this was the tension to which the sample garment was knitted.
