“O, Jenny’s a’ weet, poor body, Jenny’s seldom dry: She draigl’t a’ her petticoatie, Coming thro’ the rye! Comin thro’ the rye, poor body, Comin’ thro’ the rye, She draigl’t a’ her petticoatie, Comin’ thro’ the rye! Robert Burns

Inspired by the shapes and textures of pieced- patchwork quilts, Wild Rye is an airy triangular shawl featuring beautifully graphic slipped-stitch cables in a diamond patterning, that stand proud of a garter stitch background.

The pattern includes written instructions, charts (and written equivalents), photographs, a schematic, and has been professionally tech edited.

The Wild Rye Shawl is knitted sideways and outwards from a central i-cord along which stitches are picked up in order to work each side.
The slipped cable patterning is work using the ‘double-pass’ method, which is fully explained. The fringe edging is created by casting on extra sts before or after picking up sts along the i-cord. These extra sts are worked as a garter stitch border and are unravelled after knitting to reveal the fringing.
