The Story of Wildgarden Socks

My Grandma asked me to knit her a new pair of socks to wear around the house, and I knew they would have to be inspired by her favourite flower, the hatzav (urginea maritima). The Hatzav is a wildflower that grows in her garden every autumn, just as the rest of the flowers begin to wilt. It is tall and proud, almost touching the sky with its spherical flowers.

Throughout the summer, she guards its leaves religiously as they store the energy they need for the growth spurt that is to come. She leaves the house just after sunset, picking off snails and other intruders. These socks are a tribute to her twilight ritual, and to the beautiful blossoms that appear in our lives when we least expect it, after long nights of waiting.

The Wildgarden Socks are knit toe-up, sporting a lovely combination of cables and popcorn stitches. The pair is mirrored, with an organic ribbing in the pattern creating a naturally snug and stretchy fabric.
