The Winter in Ironbridge Shawl and Cowl have been designed especially for the Lay Family Yarn Advent 2025. The beautiful, speckled yarn inspired the name of the pattern.

The pattern uses a fingering merino sock yarn and a Suri Alpaca fluff; they are knit in stripes with a simple but effective lace pattern to create a lightweight but cosy shawl or cowl.

The shawl is a large shallow crescent which is easy to wear. The cowl has the same scooped edge as the shawl but a section of ribbing cinches it in at the back.

Information:
Yarn: 1x100g (425m) fingering weight in colour A and 1x100g (400m) Suri alpaca in colour B.
Suggested Needles: US 4/3.5mm or needles required to get gauge.
Gauge: 24 sts x 44 rows to 10cm/4” over stitch pattern unblocked; gauge is less important in a shawl, however, if your gauge is looser than specified more yarn maybe required.
Measurements: Unblocked 174 cm/69” wingspan, 45cm/18” depth. Note: the fabric will grow significantly with blocking, steam or wet block to your desired size.
