Winter Solstice marks the shortest day and longest night. Traditionally a day for celebration, feasting and gift giving, it is the beginning of a seasonal year.
Winter Solstice is knit sideways from edge to edge and combines garter stitch with a simple lace edge for an elegant touch.
The sample shown has been created using fingering weight yarn but you can use any weight yarn for this design as you increase to the centre point until 50% yarn is used and then switch to the decrease section. So it makes a great project for that special single skein in your stash!
It’s also the perfect project for some easy mindfulness knitting over the holiday season as the pattern repeat is very easily remembered. Or perhaps you or someone you know is a beginner knitter keen to try lace knitting for the first time, then this is the project for you/them!

You can make this shawl with any weight yarn. Just weigh your yarn before you start and knit the increase section (Chart A) until you have 50% left and then commence the decrease section (Chart B).
