Inspiration for the “Winter Waves” Coffee & Ice Cream Mitt came over a year ago when I was sitting on a cold metal bleacher watching my kids play soccer. Where we live it’s not uncommon to have snow on the field during the last couple games of the season. As I sat shivering on that cold metal bleacher, my hot chocolate sat between my legs because I had to keep my hands in my pockets to stay warm. And that folks is where the inspiration for this design came from. Now admittedly, I put it on the back burner and didn’t actually design it until after another season of soccer passed, but now I have it for next fall! lol

Not only is it great for coffee mugs, but it also does a great job at keeping your hand warm when eating your favorite pint of ice cream (something I can use it for until next soccer season). ;)

This pattern is written in ONE SIZE, but the st patterns that are used produce a nice stretchy fabric. You can see in one of the photos that you can actually fit both hands in it, if desired.

Yarn: A light worsted weight yarn works best for this st pattern and my favorites are Lion Brand Wool Ease and Red Heart Soft. Yardage is approximately 160 yards.

Skill Level: Although the sts are basic sts, this pattern uses sl st crochet and can be tricky to get the hang of. I typically crochet very tight so sl st crochet took me a bit to get the hang of, but once I did, it was smooth sailing.
