Wintery Octagon Mandala was designed with a blanket in mind but can be used in a variety of different ways: as a doily/trivet, potholder, pillow… and even a bag. Combination of linen stitch background (with “embroidery effect”) and cables creates a very soft and draping crochet fabric.

You can choose one or more shades for this pattern, but it looks best (in my opinion) when only two colors are used. The advantage of this pattern is that there are no yarns tails to weave in, as both yarns are carried on the wrong side from one row to another.

Level: Intermediate (front post stitches), but advanced, or “adventurous”, beginners can also try it out. It’s always nice to learn something new.

This easy to follow pattern (14 pages) is written for one size. It contains step by step full written instructions in English using standard crochet abbreviations and US terms (stitch guide is given in the pattern). It also contains lots of pictures explaining all the tricky and difficult places.

Materials:

• Yarn in one or more colors. I used Colour Crafter by Scheepejs (DK)
• Crochet hook 4mm (G) or the size that will give an acceptable gauge.
• Scissors and Tapestry needle to weave the ends in.

Size: The size of the finished mandala depends on the yarn and hook you use. My mandala has approx. 16cm (6.3in) sides, and is approx. 37 cm (14.5 in) large from side to side. Approx. 40 cm (15.7in) across diagonally.
