The XOX OXO Mittens are squishy and cozy cabled mitts, featuring offset thumb gussets so the cables will run perfectly down the backs of your hands when worn, instead of being pulled off-centre towards your thumbs.

They have nice long cuffs to keep out drafts and fit comfortably under your jacket.

The classic XO cables are fun to make, and the fingertip shaping is incorporated into the cable pattern so it flows right to the end.

These mitts are knit in the round from the cuffs to the fingertips. Detailed instructions, including illustrations, are provided to show you my special method for picking up stitches at the thumbs to avoid gaps. You can watch the video tutorial on YouTube here: https://youtu.be/wsxUGBgpn3A

Why did I call them XOX OXO? Well, aside from the obvious, I like to think of these sweet mittens as a message to the wearer to be kind to herself. I sometimes need a reminder that it’s all going to be okay, especially during the dark winter when my SAD kicks in. As Glennon Melton says, Love Wins, and We Can Do Hard Things! These mittens remind me, and I hope you like them. :)

The pattern contains written and charted instructions for the adult size, and adds bonus child-size directions in charted form only.

p.s. Row gauge will make a difference in the length of your mittens, since the fingertip shaping starts at a specific place in the chart. If you’re finding your mittens to be too short or too long, you can adjust the finger length by starting the thumb gusset shaping at a different row compared to the cable chart. Stop and measure your mittens during your cuff to get an idea in advance if you’ll need to move the thumb up or down or not.
