Yare
This Scarf design is inspired by both scale and time; from the small scale intertwined pine cone motifs of a section of an original Norwich Shawl of the past, to the large scale architecture of the Sir Michael Hopkins building, The Norwich Forum, of the present.
Within the scarf, curved and elongated raised bands depict the steps of The Forum public area. A gentle curve is created by adding extra depth with short row shaping on one side of the scarf, enhancing the drape around the shoulders. The width narrows as the twisted stitch motifs change from large to small scale over three sections. The scarf begins and ends with three delicate points.
Yare is knitted with just three 50g balls of Rowan Baby Merino Silk DK yarn. I have used shade 672, Dawn. The delicate stitch definition of the Pine Cone Pattern is shown beautifully in this lovely silvery grey shade.
Yare gets progressively narrower over the curved length of the scarf.
The length is approximately 100cm (39 1/4in) along the inner edge and 121 (47 3/4in) along the outer edge.
The width is 21cm (8 1/4in) after the cast on points are joined and 17.5cm (6 3/4in) before casting off edge stitches and points.
