This sock design was inspired by the gorgeous skeins of fingering weight yarn so many of us have in our stash: beautiful colours, often with speckles. So often I have pulled out one of these skeins to knit with and find myself wanting to knit something other than a ‘plain vanilla’ sock, yet I want the beauty of the yarn to shine through and be the star of the show rather than getting lost in a complex pattern. So I came up with the idea of the Yarn Talk socks - letting the yarn do all the hard work. A simple stitch pattern which can be repeated in one of two ways to create a sock with a cosy feel. I have found it gives me a feeling of quiet calm, peace and balance when knitting these socks, perfect for knitting. I wanted to create a sock pattern that was not only relaxing to knit, but also a pattern that was addictive, leaving the knitter wanting to knit ‘just one more row’.
The sock is designed to be knit top down in the round. The cuff is knit in a twisted rib before beginning the textured 4 row pattern repeat. This pattern can be repeated or offset down the leg to create two slightly different socks. The heel is knit as a slip stitch heel flap and the textured pattern continues down the foot before a classic wedge toe completes the sock, using Kitchener stitch to graft the toe at the end. The pattern comes in three sizes - small,
medium and large. It is simple enough for confident beginners to knit as well as maintain the interest of more experienced knitters.

I am donating all proceeds from the sale of this pattern to Rose Ward at the Julian Hospital in Norwich to help fund activities for patients with dementia.
