Yesterday's Dreams
♫ The Music ♫
Yesterday’s Dreams is a Newfoundland ballad that tells one story of the effect of the collapse of the cod fishery on island culture:
“No more can they sail on the water,
Catch fish as their father before;
Yes, they’re forced to leave their island,
Leave their boats tied up on the shore.”
This scalene triangle, cable and lace shawl is knit from the base upward (see schematic). Tiny Garter edges frame the shawl at the sides; the bottom border stitch pattern (Side A) creates a slightly wavy edge that echoes the ocean theme. A lacy cable border runs up the right-hand side and mock cable columns are used to separate the stitch patterns. The main stitch pattern consists of lace elements and twisted stitch columns that reflect the love of the sea. The shawl is knit in one piece from base to tip.
This generously sized shawl knit in Knit Picks’ beautiful alpaca yarn creates the ultimate cozy space.
Both charts and written directions for charts are provided. Charts are contained in this document; the written directions for charts are included as a separate PDF.
