⸻
Construction – how is the cardigan worked?
The Yooko Cardigan is worked seamlessly in one piece from the top down.
Raglan increases shape shoulders and sleeves.
After the sleeves are separated, the body is worked flat in rows; the sleeves are then worked in the round from the armhole down.
Neckband and button bands are picked up and knitted on at the end.
⸻
Which yarns are suitable?
The original yarn was Lana Grossa Brigitte No. 3 – a soft, slightly fluffy yarn with approx. 100 m per 25 g.
Yarns that work particularly well have a similar gauge (about 15–16 stitches per 10 cm) and a light, airy structure, for example:
• Sandnes Garn KOS
• DROPS Air
• Sandnes Børstet Alpakka (held double)
• DROPS Brushed Alpaca Silk (held double)
• Erika Knight Pure Tweed
You can also choose other yarns with comparable gauge and character – always check your gauge swatch.
⸻
Can I make the cardigan longer?
Yes. Because the Yooko Cardigan is worked from the top down, you can easily adjust the length as you go.
If you want to lengthen the cardigan, plan for approx. 50 g of extra yarn.
⸻
How many buttons do I need?
The pattern is written for 7 buttons with a diameter of about 20 mm.
For longer versions you can add more buttons and buttonholes if you wish.
⸻
Which needles do I need?
You will need 4.5 mm and 5 mm circular needles (80 and 100 cm) and either a set of double-pointed needles or a circular needle suitable for Magic Loop for the sleeves.
⸻
What is the gauge?
The gauge is 15 stitches × 27 rows over 10 × 10 cm in stockinette stitch, washed and blocked, using 5 mm needles.
A correct gauge is essential for a good fit.
⸻
How do I care for my Yooko Cardigan?
Care instructions depend on the yarn you choose.
Easy-care yarns such as DROPS Air or KOS can often be washed on a gentle wool cycle at low temperature.
Fluffier yarns such as Brushed Alpaca Silk or Børstet Alpakka should be washed by hand or in a laundry bag on a very gentle cycle.
