Yukimi
Cap in five sizes from baby to adult woman.
Watching snow fall is an inexplicably fascinating human pastime, and across Japan enjoyment of snowfall is raised to high art. Yukimi, or snow viewing, may be spent solo in self reflection, or enjoyed amongst good friends, good food and good sake at one of Japan’s Yukimi festivals.
A warm woolen covering for the head is a necessity in winter
weather. As you knit Yukimi, a simple leaf lace motif repeats five times creating a sakura, or cherry blossom, which grows from the crown outwards. The floral motif is a cheerful reminder of the coming springtime. Yukimi is finished with a band of plush seed stitch, adding extra warmth for the ears and forehead.
Yukimi is constructed from crown to brim. Crown increases are hidden within the yarn overs of the leaf lace motif. Instead of using the typical k2tog and ssk to shape edges of the leaves, a single knit stitch is cabled forward or back.
