Zebra
From ‘Knitting Out of Africa’: Animals are an integral part of the African landscape. The two vests shown here reflect the markings of the giraffes and zebras that inhabit the grassy plains of Zimbabwe. The bold animal-print designs are worked in reversible double knitting; areas that are dark on the outside of the vest are light on the inside, and vice-versa. The Giraffe pullover vest is worked back and forth in rows to shape the asymmetrical lower edge, then continued in the round to the armholes where the piece divides and the front and back are worked seperately to the shoulders. The high funnel neck is a playful nod to the vest’s namesake. The Zebra V-neck cardigan is worked in one piece to the armholes, then divided, and the fronts and back are worked seperately to the shoulders.
