This poncho is worked in one piece, flat on circular needles, from the bottom up, and then the shoulders downs, leaving an opening for the neck, using the mitered square knitting method. Mitered squares are placed such that the central seam in the squares fit together to make a zigzag detail. Stitches are picked up along the sleeve ends for a 2x2 rib. Stitches are then picked up at each hem for a garter border. Finally, stitches are picked up and bound off at the neck to finish. Two short seams are sewn at the bottom of the sleeves to close.

This is an excellent stash busting pattern. I used a medley of worsted weight yarns, in shades of indigo and blue. The pattern includes a list of the yarns used, some of which have been discontinued.

Worsted weight yarns do have some variety in their thickness. However, mitered squares are very forgiving in this. I found it was best not to use thinner weight yarns right next to those which were also thinner, and did not use thicker weight yarns next to those which were also thick. I did not have a plan for the placement of the different yarns, but took into account what I had already used in and around each square when choosing what yarn to use next.
