Ziggy Cardigan
This breezy chevron top is a playful summer knit featuring bold waves of colour, a flattering deep V-neckline, and delicate front ties that add a bit of whimsy. Worked seamlessly from the top down, the garment is shaped as you knit, allowing you to easily adjust the body length and achieve your perfect fit. The all-over chevron stitch creates beautiful movement and texture while showcasing contrasting colour combinations, making each version uniquely your own. Layer over swimwear or pair with your favourite summer separates, the Ziggy top covers all your summer wardrobe needs. The front closure can be worked with the featured tie fastenings for a relaxed, feminine look, or customised with buttons for a more classic cardigan-style finish. Whether knit in vibrant contrasts or subtle tonal shades, this versatile top is an enjoyable project that combines simple construction with striking visual impact.
Notes on Sizing
The top is designed to be worn with 5-12 cm of positive ease. The Bust Circumference shown is for the finished garment. Measure your bust circumference and add 5-12 cm (2- 5 in) to this measurement to determine what size you should knit. I have a chest circumference of 82 cm. I knit the blue and white version in Size XS as I wanted a snug fit. The orange and purple version is knit in Size S for a more relaxed fit. The finished garment length measurements are given as guidelines. Try the top on to make sure the body and sleeve length are to your liking before binding off. You can always add an extra couple of rows/rounds for a longer fit.
Notes on Construction
A simple, fun chevron striped top that looks more complicated than it actually is. The back panel is knit first with increases to create the shoulder slope then straight to the armhole. These stitches are left live and we turn the work to pick up stitches from the sloped edge to create the shoulders. Once both the shoulders and the neck have been formed, we continue to knit the piece flat until we have achieved the same depth to the armhole on the front as we have on the back. We then join front and back to continue knitting the body. The sleeves are picked up from the body and knit in the round. Finally using a tubular cast-on, a double knit placket/buttonband is knit and joined to the front opening. Icord ties are knit directly onto the placket or buttons sewn on to the button band.
