Oh, what a fun hat! Simple stranded colourwork produces an offset zigzag effect on this striking beanie. The pattern uses simple charts and is suitable for knitters with little or no experience of colourwork. The pattern uses small amounts of each of the two contrast colours, so is a great stashbusting project.
A pattern for matching, fingering weight fingerless mitts can be found here.
Yarn Required
Heavy DK or light worsted weight yarn in the following quantities (given in yards):
MC: 80 (85, 95); CC1: 30 (35, 35) and CC2: 25 (30, 30)
You will need one ball of each colour if knitting in one of the stated yarns. If knitting in Knit Picks Chroma Worsted, choose just two balls in total: one solid and one gradient.
Gauge
Gauge is measured in the pattern stitch, worked in the round over the larger needles. Most knitters will achieve gauge with a heavy DK or a light worsted weight yarn.
Finished Hat Measurements
Circumference: 20” (22”, 24”); crown to brim: 8.25”
You can resize the hat easily by adding or subtracting multiples of 4 sts when you cast on.
Note: some testers found that their hat worked up small. Bear in mind that many knitters work more tightly when stranding knitting. Check your stitch and row gauge carefully.
Pictured hats use the following yarns

Light grey/pink/red adult hat: Blacker Swan DK
