Zodiac Afghan/Blanket
The Zodiac blanket was designed for a blanket club which was run by The Natural Dye Studio in 2015.
Exmoor is a designated international dark sky reserve; the reserves are classified as public or private areas that possess an exceptional quality of starry nights.
The layout of the Zodiac constellations were a perfect illustration of the stars you might see on a moorland dark night.
The blanket contains all 12 constellations in the right placement order, however they may seem backwards, but this is due to the earth revolving in an anti-clockwise direction.
The two basic motif patterns are fairly simple, using the basic stitch’s, they are a couple of steps away from the traditional granny square.
The pattern contains step by step layout charts, working out from the Sun (central motif)
Each constellation is numbered, with a colour key to help you choose the correct colours for each motif.
The blanket can be made with the recommended yarns or you can use yarns you already have in your stash, as long as the constellations are made with colours from the same dye lot.
The background can be made with yarns of similar shades.
The Zodiac blanket is made with 1600 gms of DK/Sport weight Yarn, 250/260 metre’s per 100 gms
You can choose any yarn of the correct weight.
Recommended yarns include John Arbon Knit by Numbers DK, Cascade 220 Sport, Yarn Stories Merino DK.
