Zora is a cousin of my design, “Wakefield”; it has the same feminine silhouette with a gently flared shape and deep shawl collar, only with a double wave cable pattern instead of hearts and bobbles. When I first saw this stitch in Barbara Walker’s Treasury, I was surprised at the extent to which it drew my eye, given that the cables are superimposed, not interwoven. I think the diagonal lines create a nice sense of movement. Just as in “Wakefield” there’s some cuff detail, but here it’s in the form of a close-up of the central crossover in the body cable. The wave motif led to the name, a reference to the water creatures in the computer game, “Legend of Zelda”.
Like its cousin, Zora has a knitted-in inset sleeve, worked by means of a perpendicular join. The body is worked from the bottom up, the sleeves are knitted from the top down, and the collar is knitted on using short rows. No sewing anywhere—just weave in the ends, block, and wear.
