Inspired by the narrow stripes and figured patterns of a beautiful early nineteenth-century woven Kashmir shawl in Gawthorpe Textile Collection, I’ve created these two designs.
The name Miss Rachel’s Yoke and Gauntlets was agreed with my friends at Gawthorpe, and I hope that when knitting these patterns you’ll remember Rachel Kay Shuttleworth -- an inspiring woman who dedicated her life to textiles and their history
20% of each pattern sale will be donated to Gawthorpe, to support this important collection, and to continue Miss Rachel’s vision for “a centre for education, crafts, knowledge, and beauty; a joy and benefit to many people.”
12 page Ebook includes patterns for both the yoke sweater and gauntlets, together with an essay exploring the history of the shawl which inspired these designs.
A kit to knit both yoke and gauntlets (which includes ebook download, yarn, and project bag) is available from Kate’s shop
