While we often knit with the intention of making a cozy, embracing fabric to keep out the cold, there is one kind of knitting that aims for openness, for letting light and air flow freely: lace. We create openness in our knitting by making intentional holes, which in turn form patterns.
Jeanette Sloan, the designer for this Field Guide, hails from England, where knitted lace has a long history. Jeanette likes to focus on contemporary interpretations though. Give her an old lace stitch guide, and her creative flood gates open.
