String is NYC’s premier yarn boutique, located on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. It is renowned for its carefully curated collection of fibers, exclusive runway-influenced handknit designs and customized patterns, and professional finishing services.
String first opened its doors in 2002 when fiber enthusiast and author Linda Morse brought her singular taste and NY-centric design aesthetic to the neighborhood. Linda sourced and added Italian-produced luxury yarns, packaged under the String brand, to the store’s product range, and frequently worked with fellow New Yorker and fiber-phile, Stacy Charles to bring the finest yarns to US knitters.
When Linda decided to retire in late 2014, it was only natural that Stacy, her longtime collaborator and co-owner of Tahki Stacy Charles, would step in to purchase the store and keep its traditions alive.
