A collection of four shawls in honor of a group of the toughest, most resilient, most beautiful women to grace the silver screen. Each woman faced discrimination from both the film industry itself and the press, and overcame great odds to create outstanding performances that have endured long after their deaths. Recently honored by the city of Hollywood, all four are part of a structure at the beginning of the Walk of Fame down Hollywood Boulevard.
The shawls in this collection are a wide range of styles: Faroese, circular, a-symetrical, and sideways, and try to blend each woman’s cultural heritage, personal history, and values as a source of inspiration. Mae West’s larger than life personality, Dolores Del Rio’s proud Mexican heritage, Dorothy Dandridge’s career as both singer and actress, and Anna May Wong’s heritage as a woman of both China and Southern California.
