What if you start knitting mittens starting from a thumb?
That was the question I asked myself before I made Thumbs Up, Scrappy Stripes and Random Scrappy Stripes.
All 3 designs are fingerless mittens that are knit starting from the thumb that is worked to the desired length, then shaped with short rows at its base. The hand is worked around the thumb, forming a square. When it reaches the desired width, the square is folded and its two sides are joined on the bind-off row. Finally, ribbing is added at the cuff and hand.
