Knitting: Sleeveless Top
This piece plays both with opacity and texture by mixing lace patterns and yarns, to create a garment that recalls rippling prairies. A feather-and-fan style stitch pattern is used to create stripes in wool and mohair that visually mimic the (rapidly vanishing) grass seas of the interior. Holding both yarns together for ribbing creates a third ...
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
No intarsia, no stranded knitting, only one color worked at a time. The end result looks much more complex than this shawl is to work.
Knitting: Pullover
This sportsweight sweater is a classic crewneck yoked sweater, laden with interesting details. The stranded yoke pattern mixes colorwork, slipped stitches and reverse stockinette in a design drawn from the classic quilt block. The triangles are echoed in a subtle, all-over cabled stitch in the body and sleeves, while striped edgings give a casu...
Knitting: Christmas Stocking
One of the most charming Christmas traditions is, for me, unboxing the heirloom ornaments and stockings that have been used in our family since before I was born. With a new family member to welcome, I wanted to design a stocking that would fit right in, and be cherished for generations to come.

Inspired by the patterns of frost on a wintry window, the Permafrost Hat features twisted stitches and faux-cable patterns, plus two options for brim length.

Speckles and colorwork aren’t always a match made in heaven, but this design makes the most of both. A bold, minimalist colorwork yoke stands out against a sea of speckles, finished with a round of bobbles (or, for those that don’t like bobbles, a more subtle stranded design). If you really like throwing everything in the mix, you can carry a s...
Knitting: Pullover
A chance to pair some fun yarns, this raglan sweater pattern is designed to make the most of one solid or semi-solid yarn, and one contrasting speckled, variegated, or gradient skein. Slipped stitches mark out faux raglan and side seams, while a slipped cable pattern running down the front and sleeves keeps things interesting (for the knitter, ...

December 17, 2017: the pattern has been updated to correct some small errors, particularly in the 18-24 month size, that a sharp-eyed knitter picked up.

Anna Maltz’s marlisle technique is one of the coolest things I’ve seen in a while. It gives a knitter the ability to work areas of color with more spacing stitches than stranded knitting easily allows, and without the hassle of bobbins that intarsia requires.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
Crescent shawls don’t have to start with a stockinette portion! This shawl begins with twisted stitches alternating with a clever mock cable (no cabling involved) for a fresh, graphic look. It then opens up to a lacy floriate edge with a dramatic lower edge (dramatic points really are the best bit of a lace shawl, right?).

The majestic Austrian Alps and baroque vistas of Salzburg are as essential to The Sound of Music as the actors. Alpen brings to life the mountain meadows and hills in a warm, squooshy cowl with two size options: single or double loop. Carefully placed increases and decreases combined with stripes create a modern alpine range, and a leafy lace p...

Knitting: Fingerless Gloves
A modern, geometric take on stranded knitting designs, Zippertooth Mitts are a great pattern for playing around with color choices, and using up scraps or yarn minis. Twisted ribbing and a contrast color cast-on keep things fresh and interesting, while the thumb gusset is carefully designed so as not to interrupt the pattern.

The quiltmakers of Gee’s Bend are extraordinary craftswomen and artists. This design took flight from their freestyle interpretations of the traditional flying geese quilt block, paired with a yarn that is at once rustic and sophisticated.

Keep the evening chill off your shoulders with the Shifting Lace Shawl. This lovely triangular lace shawl may be customized by repeating the first two lace patterns as many or as few times as desired. You’ll create an accessory uniquely your own! Pattern is written and charted.

Gracetown is a tiny little beachside town in the South-West of Australia, known for its excellent surf beaches and proximity to wine country. It was named for Grace Bussell, a fairly extraordinary woman who, in 1876 and at age 16, rode her horse out into that surf and rescued some 50 people from a shipwreck!

Pattern-mixing ahoy! This bold cowl features a geometric pattern inspired by Moorish tilework on oneside, and a sweet, traditional gingham on the other. Totally reversible, there’s no wrong side here.

Babies grow so quickly that I’m always worried that they’ll outgrow any knitted gifts before they even get to wear them. So I designed this hat in brioche stitch, one of the stretchiest stitches there is, for something that will hopefully fit for that little bit longer.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
Clean, comfortable, with a strong, graphic motif, this shawl is worked from the centre top downwards. The body portion is in almost all in garter stitch, for comfortable squishiness around the neck. The stocking stitch spines keep the knitting just that little bit more interesting. Nupps (small Estonian bobbles) add texture on the graphic mesh-...

This pattern was designed to make the most of a 50g/ 1.7oz skein of fingering weight yarn. But because having options is one of the best things about knitting your own accessories, the pattern also sizes up beautifully.
