Knitting: Scarf, Cowl
Tsuwano was the first place I visited by myself when I moved to Japan (had to figure out the trains and everything). It’s a charming little town, small enough to tour by rented bicycle. Large, colorful carp swim in the waterways along the old-fashioned streets. There are two Catholic churches (something of a rarity in Japan) and a beautiful Shi...

Knitting: Shawl / Wrap

Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
Named for the Land of Silver, this shawl works up in the shape of a large crescent, allowing the ends to fall in graceful spirals. It is particularly elegant worked in worsted weight silk from Himalya yarns, but many different yarns/ weights can be successfully substituted.
Knitting: Cardigan
This top-down, raglan-style cardigan is worked in an allover rib stitch in one piece. At four points around the waist (two at the front, two at the back) the ribs curve into a cable motif, providing gentle, flattering shaping. A rectangular shawl collar is worked separately in an all-over version of the same motif and sewn on.

Finally, the right idea presented itself in the form of a soft, snow-white skein of yarn and a handful of blood red buttons.

Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
This shawl does double duty, either as a lightweight wrap or, looped around your neck a couple of times, a surprisingly warm scarf. Although I really like the drape and swoosh of the Taj Mahal yarn shown, you could work this in virtually any yarn you like. The pattern is very simple, and since it can be worked to any size, gauge doesn’t really ...
