The inspiration for this pattern is the Cascade Range here in the Pacific Northwest. I love blue and white together, and this set always makes me think of alpine areas.

I wanted to come up with a slightly different brim for this hat, so I chose one that is reminiscent of a basket. The colors are inspired by the redwood trees in northern CA. The brown represents the bark, the green is the leaves, the black is the rich earth, and the white is the story the tree would tell us if we could communicate.

You can either duplicate stitch the jack o’lantern face on the bowl once you have completed the knitting of the bowl or you can incorporate it in after you have knit the first three rounds. If you duplicate stitch it using double stranded yarn, the face stands out from the bowl a little. You will need to felt the bowl when it is completed.
