CAKE Worsted
A four layered (4-ply) slice of delicious woolly wonder. The loft alone on this will have you coming back for 2nd and 3rd skeins. As heavenly as the perfect light and airy sponge cake that is just firm enough. I knew as soon as I held it in my hands that I wanted to add this in as one of our quintessential garment base yarns.
21.5 micron Merino spun just right! The stitch definition on the 4-ply version is extraordinary. Our good friend and yarn gauge test knit goddess is head over heels in love with CAKE and is planning all sorts of wonderful sweaters of this 4-ply beauty!
“These yarns are SOOOOO yummy! Might be my ultimate sweater yarn!” Karen Alfke
Contents: 100% Merino
Length: 560 yds / 512 m
Weight: 9 oz / 255 g
Gauge: 17 to 20 stitches per 4 inches (10.6 cm) on size 6 - 8 (4.0 - 5.0 mm) needles
Here are Karen’s in-depth gauge specs:
US6 (4mm) blocked = 20 or 20.5 x 31
Firm, reliable fabric at this gauge’ balanced stitches with good definition. I like it for pullovers or other pieces that need some density; has great snap-back.
US7 (4.5mm) blocked = 18.5 x 29
Good drape at this gauge; not see-through at all. Stitches a bit looser, but still shapely. Great gauge for a cardigan!
US8 (5mm) blocked = 17 x 27
Quite flowy’ stitches are poofy, but fabric still not sheer. Decent snap-back. Still good integrity!
