We recommend working in needle sizes US 6 - US 10 as it best exhibits this beautiful natural fiber into a soft, draping fabric. We also highly recommend washing and blocking the finished piece to smooth the appearance of uneven stitching.
The yarn has been manufactured without the addition of binders (such as merino) or a nylon core. The length of fiber and the type of spin process allow us to provide a silky, soft and reflective luxury yarn.
We often see a puzzled look from admirers of this yarn as the term ‘Young Goat’ is not commonly understood! The comment ‘Young Goat’ is actually a classing term, referring to the micron of the individual fiber. ‘Young Goat’ measures between 29.5 and 31 micron, and is a fiber commonly prized by hand spinners. The fiber is sheared off young adult angora goats that are at the age where they become mothers.
Our yarn is a fingering weight hand knitting yarn commercially processed (in the USA) for consistency. We hand dye the natural pearl skeins in a professionally managed small dye house in Melbourne, Australia.
It is extremely soft, but you’ll see more halo and slightly more shedding. Still - not your traditional mohair; not scratchy, not a big ball of fluff on a nylon core. It is flat and reflective. It satisfies those who like to work in heavier weighted yarns, with a more dense and warmer result.
