Cattail Silk
Spun and dyed in Japan, Cattail Silk is a 100% mulberry silk yarn with a wonderfully earthy texture and a casual spin speckled by little nubs of color.
- Mulberry silk is renowned for its beauty, strength, and superior quality.
- This yarn’s distinctive texture comes from spinning three plies of just the noil, which are the short fibers created when silk is combed and carded. Also called raw silk (although it’s not “raw” at all!), the resulting fiber has a lighter drape than other silks, a more subtle shine, and an offhanded elegance.
- With its bitty nubs and varying texture, Cattail Silk is always compelling to knit, whether on its own or held together with another of our beautiful yarns!
- Choose from a beautiful bouquet of colors, each named from Japan’s list of traditional, time-honored colors.
- Cattail Silk is a fingering to sportweight yarn, perfect for wraps and sweaters. With over 600 yards per skein, you’ll hardly ever need more than a handful.
Note: A few of these colors may run a little bit. If you’re knitting a darker color with a lighter one, please soak the darker one in some white vinegar and warm water before winding and knitting to help fix the dye.
