Our Pepper yarn is a zesty delight, sprinkled in a range of hand-dyed color, from a light touch to a more generous hand!

  • A plush single ply of 100% superwash merino wool, Pepper has an incredible softness that makes it cozy and ideal for baby knits and next-to-skin wear.

  • Yes, “superwash” means it’s machine washable! The superwash fleeces come from a carbon-neutral mill in Uruguay that puts their flock’s welfare and workers’ safety first. A wonderful mill in Peru spins these fleeces into a smooth single ply and then applies lively colors by hand onto the warm white yarn.

  • Pepper’s palette has two distinct personalities, both creating marbled fabrics full of depth, contrast, and lively surprises from stitch to stitch. Some are delicately seasoned: 3 or 4 cheery colors are speckled by hand onto a warm white base, creating scattered flecks of color. Others are turned up a notch, with bolder, saturated hues hand-printed onto the yarn, coating the strand in rich color with just a hint of white peeking through. Compare the buttery yellows of Yellow Daffodil with the rich gold of Sunflower Yellow to see the difference!

  • Knitting up at a sport to light worsted/DK weight, Pepper is not too thick and not too thin. For speedier knits, it’s especially fun to hold two strands together to double the color play. Explore our growing collection of knitting patterns in Pepper and cast on!

  • Please note that there has been a rare occurrence of this yarn “pooling.” Consider alternating balls every row or round to keep the color evenly dispersed. Our Working With Irregular + Hand-Dyed Yarns: Avoiding Pooling Tutorial explains this problem and solution in more depth!

  • Pepper is an OEKO-TEX certified yarn, milled in Peru and made with 100% superwash wool from a carbon-neutral mill in Uruguay that uses 98% wind energy and has on-site water treatment of all water effluents. They are also animal lovers, allowing their flocks to live their best sheep lives!

  • Looking for more yarn like this? If you’d like a non-superwash wool yarn that knits up at a similar gauge, try Wigeon, our 100% Falkland merino wool, or our super popular Good Wool, 100% Andean highland wool. Or try Goldenberry Alpaca, another single-ply, hand-dyed DK yarn, made with 100% baby alpaca… Extraordinarily beautiful! Cotton Pure is a plant-based yarn option that is also worth exploring as a lovely Pepper substitute!
